Ordinarily, no man or woman has the chance to determine his sex at birth. Everyone grows up to realise his sex and lives with it. The experiences that come with being a male or female differ a great deal. To some, being a female is the best thing to ever happen, while others would swear by whatever they believe in that it is a curse.
The same goes for a male. While life has truly proved to many that it is indeed “a man’s world,” some have secretly envied female folks and wished that they had come as one. Everyone has his or her reason(s).
The question, therefore, is: Given the opportunity of a second chance, what sex would you choose? Many spoke with The Next Edition and here are their views:
Miriam Amanama, Hair Dresser: I would love to remain a woman because of everything that is associated with being a woman, like being pregnant, experiencing childbirth and motherhood among other things. I see men as being lazy, theirs is only to impregnate, provide and cater for the needs of the family. Apart from all these the man worries less. So, I don’t and will not want to be a man.
Lizzy Uduak, Teacher: I would like to come back as a woman because men’s suffering is much. They will think about feeding, school fees, accommodation, healthcare and every basic amenities of life for the family. They are not easy tasks.
Anita Imoh, Entrepreneur: Surely I would love to remain a female. I can’t imagine myself as a guy because of the stress and sacrifice they go through to make ends meet for their family and loved ones.
Queensley Nta: Applicant: I still want to come back as a bouncing baby girl because girls are unique in nature as God made it so.
Princess Essien, Entrepreneur: I like to come back as a guy because I like guy and wish I was a guy but the fact still remain that I am a girl which I can’t change. I don’t have any specific reason for wanting to be a guy.
Agnes Alao: Female of course! I just love the fact that I am a woman and a mother. So, I will like to remain what I am.
Stephen Amanama, Driver: I want to remain a man even if I have the opportunity to come back to this world a hundred times. I love being a man because of the responsibilities attached. Sometimes I wonder if I can do all the things a woman does. It is not easy but I admire women.

Chima Njoku, Stayman: I would choose to be a man in my next life because as they say it is a man’s world. There are privileges that come with being a man in this world, especially Africa. There are things that men can easily get away with that women can’t. For instance, if a man has sexual affairs with numerous women, he is called a “player.” If a woman does the same, she is labeled as a whore. A man is allowed to marry more than one wife in the African tradition but a woman is not allowed to do so. Physically, men are stronger but don’t go through the heavy burden of pregnancy and the pains of child birth. There are many reasons why I would choose to be a man again but the aforementioned are just a few of them. That is not to suggest that I am a male chauvinist. I just prefer to be a male and would choose to be a man over and over again.
Christiana Stephen, Civil Servant: I would come back as a man. It is so hard being a woman! Men have it easy. It’s not the same for the women. As a single woman you have to put yourself out in a way that you won’t be seen as being bad; as a successful woman, people claim you are sleeping your way to the top. As a married woman, you have to keep your house together and then when the kids come, it would be worse if you have a husband who believes women have to be everything. Then physically, what goes on in a woman‘s body – Menstruating every month. It is not a joke! I would be a man!
