Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi, Abuja, on Wednesday granted bail to Maryam Sanda.

She is standing trial over alleged stabbing of her husband, Bilyamin Bello, to death over suspicion of infidelity on November 19, 2017.

Bilyamin is the son of Alhaji Bello Haliru Muhammad, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The bail was granted because she is pregnant and ill.

Maryam presented a medical report to the court to that effect.

It would be recalled that Maryam had fought spiritedly to secure her bail since last year when she was first arraigned.

One of the reasons advanced by her lawyer, Joseph Daudu, for bail was the fact that she was nursing a six months old baby who would need attention.

When the plea failed, she made another effort to get out of prison claiming she was pregnant.

The fresh plea was made on February 7.

The judge also refused to grant the bail when the plea was made.

However, following the presentation of documents to the effect that she was indeed pregnant and ill, her request was granted.
