Despite claims of incompetence and warnings that he should not stay in office beyond 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari remains the candidate to beat in the coming presidential election.

This assertion was made on Tuesday by the senator representing Lagos Central, Oluremi Tinubu.

Remi is also the wife of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu who spoke on a TVC discussion programme, Your View, said Buhari’s integrity stood him out and had endeared him to many Nigerians.

“Buhari is still the candidate to beat…

“Have you seen the poor? They trust him than any other crop of leaders you have today. I am not campaigning for him because I have looked at the dynamics. The poor still trust him.”

Tinubu also spoke about the passion with which her husband still participated in reconciling the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, despite being allegedly ill-treated by the Presidency after the electoral victory of 2015.

She said her husband’s actions were informed by his love for Nigeria.

“I saw somebody who has love for this country…

“I said ‘you are still helping out! Why are you helping out? He said ‘this country matters to me more’.”

She said she was pained by the way her husband was treated by the Presidency after winning the 2015 election.

She said after all he contributed, they ended up “trashing” him and that that was indeed painful.
