Big brother Naija is the talk of town. Wherever two or more youths are gathered in a civilized environment, they are discussing Big brother Naija as it is the rave of the moment.

This is the season 3 of Big brother Nigeria. The first season was in 2006 held at Ikeja, GRA, Lagos. Eleven years later, the second season of Big brother Naija (See Gobe) was held in South Africa, which drew criticisms from Nigerians over the rational behind holding it outside of the country. But with time, people got over it and enjoyed the show.

On the day season three started, there was the Grammy Awards that same night. On twitter, Big Brother Naija was the number one, trending on Twitter ahead an event as big as Grammy award. That shows that millions of people across Africa are viewing it.

Like the second season, this one is also sponsored by Payporte. Unlike the Big brother Africa, only Nigerians are allowed to vote for the housemates. Also, unlike the Big brother Africa, there is no shower hour.

This season is called “Double Wahala” because two housemates have been paired. Everyone has a “strategic partner.” Each housemate would be evicted alongside his or her partner. The same thing for punishment or “strike.”

This season promises to be exciting as Biggie surprises housemates every step of the way. The housemates are 20 in the number. Each day opens with a lot of drama.

Some days ago, Kbrule jumped down from a balcony after excessive alcohol intake. Many of the housemates alleged that he did that because he was jealous that Anton who he loves, kissed Lolu. But
Kbrule has, however, denied that. He said, “I just felt like jumping from there. It had nothing to do with my feelings for Anton and the kiss she gave Lolu.

There is also the story of Tobi and Cee-C who are strategic partners. The two are the most talked about housemates because of the way Cee-C ‘controls’ Tobi. Wherever Tobi goes, Cee-C follows. Tobi is also fond of begging her as if his life depends on it whenever she is offended. As a result, Tobi has become the butt of cruel jokes on social media.

The Next Edition spoke with some Nigerian youths to find out what excites them about Big Brother. Chimezia Okafor who is a student of the University of Lagos said, “It is a reality show. Most reality shows do well. Many people can actually relate with the characters.”

Halima Zakari said “To me, it is just to escape from reality. If you check the papers, you see depressing stories. Big brother has given people that opportunity to relax their minds.”

For Tosin Adebayo “People love success stories. Big brother Naija is an inspiration to many youths. It gives hope to youths out there that one minute you may be nobody and the next minute you could be somebody in life. It is a life changing experience for the housemates and it is something every young man wishes for. It comes with over night fame.

For those people who are criticizing the show on account that it is immoral, Adebayo has a word of advice for them, “Well, It is not by force to watch it. Those criticizing the show are free to block the channel on DSTV. Everyday DSTV shows us how to block the channel. They aren’t forcing anyone to watch it. As for me, I love. I can’t do without it.”
