The Governor of River State, Nyesom Wike, has expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the success recorded in the killing of Prince Igwedibia popularly known as Don Wani.
He said he thanked the president for not playing politics with the decision to fish out the perpetrators of the massacre in Omoku, Rivers State.
Wani is the brain behind the killing of about 20 persons in Omoku community in Rivers State on New Year day.
Some of those killed were returning from church when they were murdered.
Following the development, President Muhammadu gave an order to the police and other security agencies to ensure that those behind the killing were apprehended and brought to book.
On Saturday, the suspected militant leader, believed to be behind the killing, Don Wani, was shot dead along with others in a combined operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Army at a border town between Rivers and Imo.
The incident happened at about 5 p.m.
Apparently excited by the killing of Wani, Wike while thanking Buhari for the action of the security agencies said it was obvious that Buhari did not play politics with uncovering those behind the killing in Omoku.
Wike, in a statement by the Commissioner of Information and Communication, Rivers State, Emma Okah, said killing Don Wani and his men is a victory for the people of the state.
The statement reads in part: “We thank President Muhammadu Buhari for not playing politics with the Omoku massacre but gave a matching order which galvanised the efforts of the 6 Div of Nigeria Army, the DSS, police and everybody or agency who played a role to avenge the death of the innocent people killed in Omoku on 1st January, 2018.
“The success of our collective effort has shown that there is no hiding place for the wicked.”
He explained that the killing of Wani and his men was a victory for the good people of the state.
“It underscores the desirability of honest partnership and synergy between the government and security agencies as well as the public in tackling security problems in the state.
“This victory gladdens our heart and we remain more committed in the fight against crimes and will continue to support the police and all security agencies in the onerous task of securing our dear Rivers State and her people,” he said.
