The smoothies train docked in this part of the world and never took flight again. Now every corner you turn, some sort of smoothie making is going on. While this is not necessarily a bad thing there are a few things consumers should note.

The health of a smoothie depends on its ingredients. The most common mistake often made is that most outlets use too many sweet fruits and consumers automatically assume it’s healthy. Too many sweet fruits can lead to much sugar which is not a good thing.

Consumers should always be sure that they are buying from people that they know handle their ingredients and equipment properly to avoid contamination. With that in mind, what are some of the common smoothies one can drink for health purposes in mind. Below are a few examples:

NOTE: If you are making them yourself, be sure to limit your use of sweet fruits. Always opt for fruits with low glycemic index such as carrots, cucumber, etc. Also introduce vegetables to your smoothies as well.

Banana Ginger Smoothie

This helps soothe digestion, heartburn, nausea, and other stomach trouble with the fresh ginger in this natural remedy smoothie recipe.
Ingredients: Banana and ginger. You can add honey if you want in a bit sweeter. Water as well if you want a less thick consistency. Add all these in a blender and blend until smooth.

Strawberry-Kiwi Smoothie

It helps you stay full and fight diseases as well. This high-fiber smoothie recipe becomes even healthier when you use organic kiwis, which contain higher levels of heart-healthy polyphenols and vitamin C.

Ingredients: Kiwifruit, strawberries, banana and honey. Blend it all together until smooth.

Avocado Lime Smoothie

This creamy avocado lime smoothie is loaded with healthy monounsaturated fats which provide your body with a concentrated source of energy. It also contains low-calorie, high-fiber ingredients like celery and kale to help prevent constipation.
Ingredients: Avocado, Fresh Lime Juice. You can add other fruits like pineapple, apple etc to sweeten it up. Also add fresh coconut water to make it less creamy if that is your preference.

Orange Carrot Ginger Smoothie

Carrots are loaded with Vitamin A and beta-carotene. They are also known for providing a number of health benefits such as anti-aging and anti-cancer benefits. This is all on top of it’s benefits towards weight loss. Ginger is a great natural remedy as well.

Ingredients: Carrots, Fresh Orange juice ( Always endeavour as much as possible to use juice from oranges you peel yourself as most packaged ones aren’t as organic as advertised ), Ginger. Add all together in a smoothie maker and blend until smooth. Serve cold to enjoy it more.

Carrot-Beet Apple Smoothie

Beetroot helps in lowering blood pressure, is a good source of potassium, and helps to improve exercise stamina amongst other things. Apples are loaded with fiber and help to prevent constipation especially when paired with carrots. Add other fruits like watermelon, pineapple to sweeten it

Ingredients: Carrots, Beetroot, Apple. Add all ingredients and blend until smooth.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Strawberries are loaded with antioxidants and polyphenols as well as other nutrients, vitamins and minerals that contribute to the overall health benefits of these berries.. Bananas in smoothies tend to make smoothies more filling. They are also rich in potassium, can cause increased energy, improve digestion and a host of other benefits. Combined together this is one super healthy smoothie.

Ingredients: Strawberries and Bananas are the main ingredients. You can add an assortment of fruits and vegetables just remember to go easy on the sweeter fruits.

You can do your research and find even more fruit and vegetable combinations are healthy for the body. The list for this can be endless. Play around with combinations and find what works for you. Also bear in mind you are not limited to fruits and vegetables only. Adding things like flaxseeds, chia seeds, peanuts, etc can only enhance your smoothies. Moderation in quantities is key here.

A smoothie a day can help you stay healthy and lose weight. Even if weight loss is not your goal, a smoothie a day is a great way to get in your daily serving of vegetables. This is one health kick that all should get on board and stay on board.
