An Ohio man accused of killing his fiancee’s mother was a pallbearer at her funeral just days before he was arrested, authorities said.

Jeffrey Scullin, 20, was charged Tuesday with the stabbing and shooting death of sixth-grade teacher Melinda Pleskovic, 49.

Police have not released a possible motive for the killing and declined comment when contacted by InsideEdition.com on Thursday.

The woman’s bloodied body was found on her kitchen floor by Scullin and Pleskovic’s husband, Bruce. Scullin had been living in the house with his fiancee Anna and their 18-month-old daughter.

The young couple was to be married last Saturday. Instead, Pleskovic’s funeral was held in the same church that the two had chosen to take their vows.

Scullin helped carry Pleskovic’s casket from the altar.

He and the popular schoolteacher’s husband each dialed 911 to report her deathon Oct. 23. “I think someone killed my wife,” Bruce Pleskovic is heard saying on an audiotape of his emergency call.

Scullin, between heavy breaths, tells another dispatcher, “Somebody’s been attacked in my house,” according to a recording of his report. “She has blood all around here … There’s a lot of blood.”

On Tuesday, he was arrested and charged with aggravated murder. He is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

Scullin and the Pleskovics had previously phoned police about trespassers and the theft of Melinda’s car keys, according to local reports.

The police investigation of her slaying is ongoing.
