The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Commissioner of Police, Benneth C. Igweh has ordered a clampdown on all vehicles plying Abuja roads with a single or no number plate.
The development followed the increasing cases of armed robbery, popularly known as ‘one chance’ across the territory.
In a statement issued on Saturday night by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, the CP ordered that vehicles with one or no plate number should be impounded, and the driver arrested for prosecution.
According to the PPRO, most cases of the ‘one chance’ robberies were associated with “vehicles with single or no number plates”.
The criminal act has pricked the attention of the populace, who have now begun to question the effectiveness of the police in addressing the menace.
The Next Edition reports that several unsuspecting citizens have continued to lose their lives and even valuables due to the activities of the unscrupulous individuals.
Many residents have been found dead along road sides after being declared missing by family members due to a one-chance robbery in the nation’s capital.
According to Adeh, the police boss also warned car dealers in the territory against parking their vehicles in an unauthorised parking lot.
He also cautioned them against driving beyond the stipulated time, which is six 6 pm, vowing that defaulters would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
She noted that the act was against section 25 (5) of the Federal Capital Territory Road Transport Regulation Act, 2005.
