Court Remands 63-Year-Old “prophet” For Allegedly Defiling Minor

An Ado-Ekiti, Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, ordered that a 63-year-old man, Akin Aderiye, be remanded in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged defilement.

The police charged Aderiye, whose address was not provided, with defilement.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Bankole Oluwasanmi, did not take the plea of Aderiye for want in jurisdiction.

The magistrate advised the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

He adjourned the case until March 21 for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the Aderiye committed the offence on Feb.10 in Esure-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Akinwale alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl.

He said the minor told the police that the suspect lured the minor to his house on the pretense that he was going to give her some money.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 31 of the Child Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal.(NAN).
