The crisis between Senator Isa Misau representing Bauchi Central, Bauchi State and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, took a different turn as the federal government has dragged the senator to court.
The senator was dragged to court by the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, over alleged cases of forgery of documents made up of affidavits and declaration of age he deposed to at the Bauchi State Health Management Board.
The suits were filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, and the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
The suits were filed following the disagreement between the senator and the Inspector General of Police.
Misau was said to have submitted the alleged forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2011 and 2014 when he ran for public office.
Part of the cases against Misau was that he lied that police officers pay N2.5 million to get special promotion and posting.
He was also said to have lied too that N10 billion was being received by Idris from oil companies and banks.
The offences are said to be contrary to section (1)(2)(c) of the miscellaneous offences Act Cap M17, laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section of the Act.
It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police and Misau have been engaged in controversy over allegations of corruption.
While Misau accused Idris of alleged corruption, the police authorities said the senator was a deserter, hence a criminal.
The issue of the crisis between Misau and the police was raised on the floor of the Senate and the legislative house has set up an ad-hoc committee to probe the case.
