Ahead of the 2023 general elections, governorship aspirants in Benue State contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said they have agreed to go about their campaigns without rancour and bitterness.

Chairman, Forum of PDP Governorship Aspirants, Mr. Chile Igbawua, stated this pledge while speaking in Lessel, Ushongo Local Government Area of the state during the decamping ceremony of the All Progressive Party, APC, members into the PDP.

Mr. Igbawua, on behalf of the forum, said they remain united and would go about their consultations and subsequent campaigns without rancour.

He also stated they would support anyone that emerges as candidate of the part at the primaries.

Governor Samuel Ortom, assisted by the Senator representing Benue North East, Mr. Gabriel Suswam, had received opposition members led by Mr. Akoso Aganyi, into the PDP.

He stated that the APC-led administration had failed Nigerians and there was no reason to remain in the party.

He stressed that the people of Ushongo had fared better under the PDP-led administration in the past.

The Governor gave assurance that PDP would provide equal opportunities for the new entrants, pointing out that they have the right to contest for any elective position in their new party.

Senator Gabriel Suswam said he and Governor Ortom are building a foundation for the youth to leverage on to provide people oriented leadership.

He stated that the people of Usbongo have no reason to remain in APC as the benefits they enjoyed while in PDP were too numerous to be forgotten in a hurry.

State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. John Ngbede, attributed the massive defections into the PDP to the enabling environment provided by Governor Ortom, even as he assured them of equal opportunities in the party.

Also speaking, House of Assembly member representing Ushongo State Constituency, Abbas Akosu, called on the people of the area to rally round the PDP in the State for more dividends of democracy while, Mrs Keziah Agundu, said she was happy that her people came back to join her in the PDP.
