The Benue State Police Command has nabbed two suspected military personnel with unspecified number of arms and ammunition in Benue state.

The suspects were arrested, Thursday night, around 9pm, by officers and men of the state police operatives known as “Operation Zenda”, in Katsina Ala local government area of the state.

A source from the community who doesn’t want to be named told journalists that the suspects were intercepted on their way to supply the arms and ammunition to late Gana’s second in command known as  “Azonto” who is believed to be  behind the killings of police men and civilians in the area.

Our source said police operative during a stop and search operation arrested some suspects among them two serving personnel of the Nigerian Army along Sankera axis which has become notorious for banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and militia activities.

According to the source, the police operatives had spread their dragnets following the attack on police men along Sankera axis where a policeman was killed and another injured.

“The two suspected military personnel were arrested while riding on a motorcycle between 9pm and 10pm last night when they were intercepted by SP Justin Gberindyer led boys who recovered some rifle and ammunitions.

The source, lamented that violence has become the order of the day in Sankera communities which led state government to the ban of use of commercial motorcycles, old model of Toyota Corolla popularly called “duck nyash” vehicle and placement of a dusk-to-dawn curfew.

He said despite these efforts to enthrone orderliness, “yet we are still at the mercy of this hoodlums”

The source called on the federal and state government to nip the situation in the bud as the killings have further heighten tension and anxiety in Sankera area.

When contacted the police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, could not confirm the incident saying she was yet to receive such report.
