The Ogalaja-Ofada Progressive Union (OGOPRU), a socio-cultural body for the people of Ogalaja-Ofada in Ogbonicha in Ofu local government area of Kogi State, has congratulated the chairman, Mr. Amodu Ibrahim, aka Destiny, and Vice Chairman, Paulina Ojotula James, for emerging victorious in the recently held local council election in the state.
The union, which also congratulated other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who won in the election, commended Governor Yahaya Bello and his deputy, Edward David Onoja, for providing a conducive environment for peaceful council election in the state on December 12.
The union’s National President, Mr. Abubakar Agene, and National Secretary, Mr. Otiti Oguche, in a statement made available to The NEXT EDITION in Lagos on Saturday, said the election of Ibrahim and James was an attestation of the people’s trust reposed in them.
The union stated that having been sworn in, they should strive to fulfil all promises they made to the people during the campaigns.
It maintained that as leaders of the third tier of government close to the people, they should carry out development of the Ofu local government area, as the people had been yearning for a better lease of life.
The union stated that the area had been in dire need of potable water as the people had been sharing the streams with cattle, thereby exposing them to diseases.
It urged the chairman and his team to ensure that their administration linked the feeder roads in the area for easy transportation of agricultural produce to the cities. Also, it called on them to liaise with the state government to improve the primary schools within the area to give the children quality basic education.

The union also called on the council chiefs to look at the health facilities in the area and improve on the primary healthcare centres as the area had been in dire need of such facilities in the communities.
It stressed the need for the youths to be empowered to enable them to be gainfully employed and go into entrepreneurship and vocations of their choice.
The statement recalled that the union had provided a 500kv transformer, lamenting that till date, it had not been connected to power source while the people remained in darkness.
It appealed to the chairman to do something positive in this regard so that the people would begin to enjoy electricity supply.
The union stressed that the benefits of electricity in the communities would be manifold as it would create jobs for the youths, women and the artisans to improve their standard of living. It stressed that the council chiefs should remember that they would be in office for three years after which they might return to the people to renew their mandates, stressing that their performance would determine how far they would go in their political journey.
