Prof. Adenike Oladiji, a former Director, Central Research Laboratories, University of Ilorin, says Nigerian scientists are good enough to dominate the field of Science if they have improved access to funds.
Oladiji told journalists in an interview on Wednesday in Ilorin that Nigerian scientists needed funding to work on various scientific explorations and at the exact time.
She explained that the only difference between Nigerian scientists and their colleagues from the advanced countries was the availability or otherwise of enabling environment.
The don, who was recently inducted into the Fellowship cadre of the Nigerian Academy of Science, added that if all that were needed were made available, Nigerian scientists would do better in addressing contemporary challenges.

On the pervasive COVID-19 pandemic, Oladiji expressed satisfaction that the scientists had succeeded in developing the vaccine which would be deployed to the treatment of the disease quicker than it was previously envisaged.
She, however, regretted that scientists had yet to receive enough encouragement from members of the public.
“With the threatening resurgence of the Coronavirus disease prevention remains the most potent instrument of halting its spread,” she said.
She advised that everything worth doing should be done to prevent a situation where the cankerworm would be contracted by more people. (NAN)
