The Plateau State correspondent of The Punch, Friday Olokor, and two other persons escaped attack by suspected Fulani Boys.
Olokor was travelling to Abuja in his car with two other persons he offered a ride.
But when they got to Agitata-Gunduma Road along Keffi-Kaduna Expressway, Nasarawa State, at about 11:50 am, some hoodlums hauled big stones on the rear windscreen of the car.
The windscreen was shattered.
Olokor, however, refused to stop, speeding off in spite of the potholes dotting the portion of the road.
In the car with Olokor were a businessman and contractor, Adesokan Fijabi, who was travelling to Akure and Samuel Dul Shetur, Lantang, Plateau State-born staff of a popular hotel in Abuja.
Olokor, could not say the intention of the attackers, but said it was obvious that “they did not mean well.”
“I escaped not because I was smart. It was divine intervention. We’re not safe in this country,” he said.
“When we eventually stopped at a safe place in the community, we saw some young men and women with long sticks, the type used for whipping recalcitrant cows. We told them of our encounter.
“They asked us where the incident took place and we told them. One of the young men shook his head but showed no empathy. Instead, he smiled. Then, we suspected that we might be in their den and I zoomed off to the next police checkpoint.
“There, some police officers from MOPOL 38, Akwanga on highway patrol informed us that two of the armed robbers terrorising commuters in the area were caught two days ago, while their leader escaped.
“The police officers said robbery was rampant on the road. They alleged that the perpetrators were “Fulani Boys” from Bauchi. When I told them that I went to some Fulani boys and narrated my encounter, one of the officers said, that is their den. Their feeling could be that they had missed target.
“The officer said, “you’re a bad market for them”,” Olokor narrated.
The police officers said the robbers had been giving security agents sleepless night.
