Ms Zainab Aliyu, the Nigerian student, detained in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking, has been released by Saudi Authorities.

Her plight came to light on Monday when the Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, tweeted that the President had directed the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to ensure that she was released after investigations revealed that she was framed.

Taking to his official tweeter handle again on Tuesday, Ahmad said that the Federal Government had secured Zainab’s release.

His tweet read, “The Federal Government has secured the release of Zainab Habibu Aliyu who was arrested in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking.

Details soon from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

Following the President’s directive on Monday, the Attorney-General’s office working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abike Dabiri’s office as well as National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and other relevant agencies secured her release.
