The much awaited news has finally arrived as the Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16.

The hope of the team qualifying for the next round was hanging in the balance having lost 0-1 to France on Monday.

To know their fate, Nigeria had to wait until the final Group F fixtures, which were played Thursday.

The USA team beat Sweden 2-0, while Chile defeated Thailand 2-0, to dim their chances of qualifying for the elimination stage.

To progress to the next stage, Chile needed to win Thailand by three unreplied goals.

Thurday’s results have taken Nigeria to the last slot reserved for the best third-placed countries. The other three countries are Brazil, China and Cameroon.

The Super Falcons on Monday, June 17 had lost to France in a controversial penalty kick in their last Group A match.

The Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby described them as his super heroes and was positive about the next stage.

With this new development, Nigeria is now ready to have a face-off with Germany in the next round on June 22, 2019.
