Ugo Willy, Gombe

Gombe State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Adamu Inuwa Pantami, has pledged his ministry’s determination to continue to use sporting activities to dissuade youths from engaging in restiveness.

The Commissioner stated this when the State SWAN executives, led by it’s Chairman, Mr. Mark Nuhu Malele, paid a thank you visit to him in his office.

He said with sports playing a crucial role in taking youths away from restive activities such as drug abuse, cultism, gangsterism such as Kakare and other criminal activities, the Inuwa Yahaya administration will leave no stone unturned in engaging the youths positively through sporting activities.

It is on this note that the Commissioner pledged to collaborate with the Gombe State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in publicizing sporting activities in the State especially in the grassroots.

According to him, just like the developed countries, Gombe will continue to leverage on the importance sports is playing in the development of youths for the betterment of the society.

“We need SWAN to help us improve on our sports and I assure you that we will carry your members along. I want you to be part of my journey in this ministry”, he pledged.

Earlier, the Gombe SWAN Chairman, Mr. Mark Nuhu Malele, said they were in the Commissioner’s office to appreciate him for supporting the association with his presence through his Permanent Secretary during it’s election and inauguration.

He assured the Commissioner of SWAN’s willingness to work with him in projecting sporting activities in the State especially grassroots sports, stressing, “all we need is for you to involve us in your sporting activities”.

He commended the Commissioner for the successes achieved in the ministry promising to further project Gombe State on the sports map of Nigeria.
