It was 90 minutes of excitement and tension as the Eagles and the defending champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, slugged it out in Alexandria, Egypt, for a slot in the quarter finals.

China-based Odion Ighalo did Nigeria proud with two goals to his credit while Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi scored the third and final goal of the match.

Nigeria’s goals came in the 19th, 63rd and 66th minutes of the game.

The defending champions were by no means pushovers as they scored two goals in quick succession through Stephane Bahoken and Clinton Njie in the first half.

They were however, overwhelmed by the Nigerians.

The Indomitable Lions who are five times winners of the African Cup of Nations have not beaten the Super Eagles from open play since 1989
