U.S. President Donald Trump says using Tylenol, a pain reliever, during pregnancy can cause autism in babies, Newsweek reported on Tuesday.

Kenvue Inc., the U.S. company that manufactures the medication, saw a significant drop in its share price following Trump’s statement.

Shares fell by 7.5 per cent shortly after the announcement on Monday, but rebounded with a 6 per cent increase in pre-market trading on Tuesday, according to the report.

Kenvue strongly disagreed with the Trump administration’s announcement, stating that there is no connection between acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, and autism.

Trump also revealed on Monday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will now inform doctors that taking acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, during pregnancy may significantly raise the risk of autism. (RIA/NAN)
