The people of Tyoshin community in Gwer-West Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state have cried out over the frequent death of their prominent sons alleging that the youths are using fetish powers to kill elders in the area.
Ter Tyoshin, Chief Daniel Abomtse stated this in Naka, Gwer-East LGA of the state on Friday, during the burial of the late Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA), Mr. Jerome Torshimbe.
Chief Abomtse said from the last count, about 30 elders have been afflicted and suddenly lost their lives through the use of traditional oracles.
He said there have been “Isolated murder of elders on account of oracle consultation by youths, which sent over 30 persons to their early graves spanning from 2012 to date.
“My Council has done her best to curtail this phenomenon to no avail. We really need a government sledge hammer to descend on perpetrators and those connivers of these dastardly acts and appeal to your government to speedily respond to check this ugly trend.”
He named the abduction and later murder of Sub-Lieutenant David Igbashal in February, 2020 as one of the most painful deaths recently.
According to him, the Naval Officer, Sub-Lieutenant, Igbashal was murdered between the borders of Ebonyi and Enugu states, around Ngbo community in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi state.

Chief Abomtse further appealed to Governor Ortom “to dig deep into this matter for the purpose of unravelling the mystery surrounding the alleged abduction and murder of the young and enterprising Naval Officer, with the aim of bringing the culprits to justice.
“The family has been heavily traumatised since the occurrence of the incident seven moths ago,” he added.
Reacting, Gov. Samuel Ortom warned the youths to desist from such act saying anyone discovered to be involved in such act would be dealt with.
He stated that he has forgiven their past mistakes, but going forward, he would not forgive perpetrators of such acts.
The Governor comforted the family of the deceased Torshimbe, urging them to take solace in the fact that their benefactor died a fulfilled man.
He said Torshimbe was a man of character and integrity who dedicated himself to duty and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.
