The Nigerian Union of Teachers, Kaduna State Chapter, on Wednesday suspended the strike embarked upon to protest the sacking of some of its members.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai fired 21,780 primary school teachers in the state following their failure of competency test carried out by the state.
Protesting the sacking of its members, NUT embarked on strike on January 8 and was later backed by the Nigerian Labour Congress.
The actions brought to a halt, academic activities in public primary and secondary schools.
But announcing the calling off of the strike on Wednesday in a statement, the NUT said the decision was reached after a meeting was held with the interim chairmen and education secretaries of the 23 local government areas of the state.
The meeting, NUT explained reviewed the situation in view of the pronouncement by the state government that the sacked teachers had a second chance.

“Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i recently announced a second chance window for the sacked teachers to re-apply under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) continuous recruitment programme.
“We commend the decision of the governor for the window of opportunity it provided for the affected teachers and gave an assurance of improved service delivery in state public schools.
“We equally commend the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NGOs and the general public for identifying with the teachers during the struggle,’’ the teachers said.
They called on the state government to always engage them in all matters relating to the improvement of service delivery in the education sector as well as teachers’ welfare.
