Former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, was on Friday, granted bail in the sum of N500 million by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He was also ordered to present a surety in like sum.
It would be recalled that Suswam had been in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, for about two weeks over alleged security issues.
He was, on Friday, arraigned by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on charges bordering on illegal possession of firearms and money laundering.
The prosecution counsel was Mr. Abubakar Alilu.
One the one hand, he was accused of illegally hiding some weapons in his car, a Mercedes Benz, while on the other, he was alleged to have converted 25 designer wrist watches worth millions of naira, being property he acquired from corruption.
Suswam however pleaded that he was not guilty of the charges against him.
Alilu pleaded the court to give a date for the commencement of the trial and that Suswam should be remanded in prison pending when the case would be started.

However, granting Suswam bail, Justice Babatunde Quadiri said the surety must be resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), swear to an affidavit of means and must be of a verifiable residential address.
The court also requested the surety to submit a passport photograph to the court.
The case was adjourned until October 24.
