The Congress of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Benue State University, Makurdi, ASUU-BSU Branch, has stated that its members will not be available for work until the strike is called off by the national body.

ASUU BSU took this decision at its congress meeting, on Thursday, after deliberating on a circular issued by Benue State University, Makurdi directing the reopening of the University on Wednesday, September 28, 2022,.

In a statement signed by the union’s Chairman and Secretary, Victor Tarnongo, and Terrumun Gajir respectively, said they will not go against the decisions of the national body.

The statement read in part, “ASUU-BSU reiterates its membership and commitment to the Union, ASUU.

“ASUU-BSU will not violate the strike directive issued by ASUU-NEC at its meeting of February 14th, 2022 at the University of Lagos.

“For purposes of records and clarity, members of ASUU-BSU will remain on strike and will not resume work with regards to the circular of 28th September, 2022 issued by Benue State University directing the reopening of the University.”

The union said the decision is taken with the highest sense of responsibility and commitment to the development of Benue State University because the issues in contention have direct impact on the University and its staff.

They called on the general public, parents, students and stakeholders to note that the services of their members will not be available until issues in contention are resolved and the strike action is suspended by ASUU National.
