The Ondo State Government has appealed to health workers in the state to stop insulting patients, but to be friendly in the course of their duties.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, gave the advice during a visit to the state Hospital Management Board (HMB) on Wednesday in Akure.
Ajaka said: “Our clients should be made centre of our service. So, don’t shun nor insult them.
“Without them, we will not be here. If you treat them very well, they will come back and more revenue will come but if otherwise, they will not come back since there is an alternative.”
Ajaka urged the health workers to increase their level of efficiency and productivity, noting that the current financial challenge facing the state would soon be over.
“Let us increase our efficiency so that we can generate more funds. Keep your morale high because this time shall pass,” he stated.
The commissioner, who noted that some health workers had travelled abroad for greener pastures, commended workers in the sector for staying back and believing in the state.
“All these challenges are understood and you have been doing your best despite them.
“But I want to assure you that all political will and support to move the board forward, I will do it,’’ he said.
Ajaka, therefore, lauded the board for its roles in ensuring that secondary hospitals in the state were active and doing their jobs.
He, however, described the board as the centre of the health sector in Ondo State.

Earlier, Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola, Permanent Secretary, Health Management Board, said the board was committed to the goals of the Redeemed Agenda of the state government.
Ikuomola appreciated Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for appointing Ajaka, adding that his antecedents would speak for him.
According to him, the commissioner’s visit will bring development to the board because of his experience as former chairman of the board.
He said that the commissioner was aware of the board’s challenges.
Ikuomola urged the commissioner to make the board’s challenges known to the governor, so that the board could perform excellently and optimally in areas of monitoring, inspection, recruitment and others. (NAN)
