SSCE: 20 Students Test Positive For Coronavirus In Bayelsa

Twenty students taking part in the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in Bayelsa have tested positive for COVID-19.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Chairman, Implementation Committee of the COVID-19 State Task Force, Dr. Inodu Apoku during a meeting of the task force with Governor Douye Diri at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Monday.

Dr. Apoku, said that 600 candidates writing the Senior Certificate exam in the state were screened, out of which 20 tested positive to the virus.

Meanwhile, Gov. Diri, has directed all civil servants from grade levels 1-12 to resume work from Tuesday, September 1.

To that effect, he has directed the Head of Service, Mrs Biobelemoye Charles-Onyeama to ensure workers abide by all COVID-19 safety guidelines when they resume.

Acting Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, in a statement quoted the governor as saying that COVID-19 restrictions were being reviewed following the flattening of the pandemic curve in the state.

On the resumption of schools, the statement noted that while students in exit classes were writing their examinations, the governor directed that all primary six pupils should resume academic activities, saying the government was evaluating the situation pending when other classes would resume.
