Singer Tems Goes On Hunger Strike In Police Custody In Uganda

Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, who has been in police custody in Uganda alongside Omah Lay has embarked on a hunger strike to protest their continued detention.

In a video posted online while having a conversation with a female Ugandan official, she said she hasn’t eaten anything in the past 24 hours and would not eat in the next 48 hours.

She has not stated any reasons for this action but social media users are speculating that she is scared of being poisoned.

The two singers have been in police custody since Sunday, December 13 on grounds of violation of COVID-19 protocols by performing at an unauthorized concert.

Nigerian artistes like Runtown, Davido, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Rema, Fireboy and Tekno have also weighed in on the matter asking the government to help release the artistes.
