Determined to help indigent people get access to representation and the required legal services, Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged the government’s continued support for law partnership in Lagos.
The governor made the pledge while receiving members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Lagos Public Interest Law Partnership (LPILP) at Lagos House, Ikeja, on Monday.
Commending members of the team for doing a great job, the governor said: “It is only through law partnership that we can serve the people better.”
The governor, who urged the LPILP to continue to raise the bar, said: “You are doing a commendable job to help indigent people who truly deserve and want representation as some may not be able to afford the required legal services.”
While reiterating his government’s continued support for the partnership, the governor said: “When you call on me, I will continue to make myself available. You are making life bearable for the people. It is a commendable project.”

He enjoined other lawyers to join the LPILP as Lagos citizens deserve the best, adding that “Government will continue to support you and we hope that you will give us the very best.”
Senator Daisy Danjuma, Chairman, LPILP, noted that the body started in 2012 as a platform for the government to partner non-governmental organisations in the provision of pro-bono services to indigent citizens.
She thanked the state government for support to develop online access to justice platform, adding that the LPILP will soon launch the pro-bono week, which she invited the governor as a special guest. While calling for the continuous support of the government, Danjuma stated that Lagos State government has always pioneered good things.
Funmi Ayeni, Executive Secretary, LPILP, said it is to provide a platform for partnership with the government for the provision of free legal services to indigent people.
She distinguished the LPILP from pro-bono services, saying that the state government bears the cost, as pro-bono service is free.
She solicited the governor’s continued support for the LPILP and urged him to attend the pro-bono week.
