A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations named Conference Of Harmonized Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria, has commended the Benue state government over reforms in the state education sector.
The CSOs also passed a vote of confidence on the State Commissioner for Education, Dennis Tyavyar, for being very supportive of government and playing very vital role in the achievements that have been recorded in the sector.
The President of the the consortium, Oduma Richard Oduma, who spoke to journalists in Makurdi said their commendation is based on a forensic review it made of the education sector under the leadership of the current Commissioner in the last five years.
They expressed the belief that the education sector has taken a very positive turn particularly as regards reforms, policies and staff performance evaluation as well as students output in national examinations.

He noted that Gov. Samuel Ortom has given the Commissioner for education a free hand to sanitize the education system and particularly lauded the recent investigation and reforms at the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as well as other policy directions in the education sector in Benue.
He noted that the transparency of Dennis Tyavyar in handling his duties has confirmed the stern anti corruption posture of Gov. Ortom’s administration, hence the confidence of his principal.
The CSOs urged other appointees of government to emulate him and ensure transparency and accountability in their places of assignment.
“We are particularly impressed with Prof. Tyavyar because he started from the constituency of the civil society and offered great intellectual capital to the movement, therefore we are proud as he continues to bring his integrity to bear on the education sector in Benue state as well as other developmental sectors of the government,” Ofuma said.
