The duo stated that the call became necessary to cushion the economic effects of COVID-19 lockdown and the #EndSARS protests of 2020.
“We wish to draw the attention of the Edo State government to the plight and untold hardship being faced by private schools owners and their staff following the more than six months lockdown last year.
“Due to the Coronavirus and the #EndSARS protest and now the closure of schools in the state till February, we call on the government to provide palliatives for our members whose data could easily be sourced from the Inland Revenue Service PAYEE record.

“We are also appealing to the state government to ensure safe reopening of schools on Feb. 1.
“This will enable our final year students to join their counterparts across the country to enrol and sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) which is expected to hold in April.
“We pledge our commitment to the fight against COVID-19 through the active monitoring of schools by our monitoring committee for compliance with the COVID-19 Safety Protocols,’’ the statement added.
The statement commended the state government for its pragmatic approach to curtailing the second wave of COVID-19. (NAN)
