According to him, the operatives of the command had earlier arrested one Halidu Idris, a member of the notorious gang of rustlers who led the Police to their hide out.

He explained that the police killed, arrested the suspect and rescued the cows and goats on Monday afternoon.

Ogaba added the feat achieved was made possible following a tip off from members of the public

“Acting on a tip off, a combined team of Police operatives attached to Jengre Division, Anti-kidnapping Unit, and the Yan Bula Hunters group of Jengre Area on Monday at about 2:30 p.m., arrested one Halidu Idris of Radi Village of Bassa, who is a member of a notorious gang of cattle rustlers operating within Jengre and its environs.

“Idris led the police to their den, but on sighting the police, the gang members who already laid ambush, opened fire on the operatives.

“As a result of the gun duel, one of the gang member was shot dead while one of the members identified as Yakubu Soja and five others took to their heels.

“Exhibit recovered at the scene include, 18 cows, 12 goats, army uniforms and some substances suspected to be hemp,” he said.

Ogaba said efforts were on to arrest Soja and other suspected members of the gang.

He urged members of the public, especially residents of the community, with useful information that would lead to their arrest to avail it to security agencies.
