Police Arrest Four Herdsmen for Kidnapping Catholic Priest

The Enugu State Police Command said it has arrested four Fulani herdsmen who allegedly kidnapped a Catholic priest, Rev Fr Lazarus Ekwueme of the Diocese of Nsukka.

Ekwueme was kidnapped on March 11, 2019, by a seven-man gang said to be operating along the Enugu-Nsukka Road.

Confirming the arrests, the Enugu state Commissioner of Police, Mr Suleiman Balarabe, said immediately the kidnapping got to their attention, the swung into action, putting everything available in motion to track down the suspects.

He said four persons were arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State listing items recovered from them to include one AK-47 rifle, one submachine gun, one pump-action rifle and one beretta pistol.”

According to the police commissioner, the suspects were already helping the police in their investigation.
