The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has commenced a nationwide strike over the laying off of its workers, the general secretary of the union said on Monday.
“Office workers and staff working in distribution are among those taking part in industrial action across Nigeria,” Mr Lumumba Okugbawa, the general secretary of PENGASSAN told reporters.
The move could affect Nigeria’s crude oil production and dent exports, as was the case in December 2016 during industrial action by the PENGASSAN against Exxon Mobil.

“PENGASSAN is on industrial action as a result of unfair labour practices by some companies, particularly indigenous oil and gas companies,” said Okugbawa.
On Sunday, The Next Edition had sighted fuel queues in Garki and Wuse areas of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The queues may not be unconnected with panic from consumers over threats of industrial action from PENGASSAN in the last few days.
