Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday chaired the 5th Presidential Quarterly Business Forum in Abuja, calling on the private sector for more cooperation on the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
He also said the government expected more to be done by the necessary regulatory agencies to be able to achieve the goal of the government in achieving ease of business.
His words: “We’re demanding more from our regulators and regulatory agencies and setting new KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).”
Osinbajo who also announced that the Federal Executive Council just approved the concessioning of the Lagos and Abuja international airports, said Nigeria was currently number 169 out of 190 rated countries in the world in terms of the ease of doing business.
He pointed out that the major factor the edition of the quarterly presidential business forum was focusing on was making Nigeria’s business environment suitable for foreign investment and investment returns.
He however explained that “bureaucratic reforms involve a fair amount of drudgery and frustration.”
“We all need staying in power to see it to the end.
“Change is often slow but we must remain focused,” he added.
The forum is part of efforts by the federal government to continually engage regularly with different segments of the Nigerian public on its economic policies.
Led by the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment in conjunction with Enabling Business Environment Secretariat (EBES), the forum focused on the ease of doing business.
The forum which kicked off at about 10 a.m. saw trade and investment minister, Mr. Okey Enelamah, urging participants to continuously contribute their quota with proper feedback to the government on various aspects of the economy and business environment discussed.
“We are constantly taking on feedback and becoming more responsive as a government,” the minister said.
