Mr. Charles Anike, National President of Eastern Union (EU), has attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC) loss of the Edo governorship election to the choice of its former National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to play leading role in the campaigns of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Anike, who spoke to The NEXT EDITION on the phone Monday from Abuja, stressed that no one man could be a champion forever, adding that “whatever we say or do today can work for or against us tomorrow.”

He added: “Oshiomohle had no business joining, not to talk of leading Ize-Iyamu’s campaign after all his accusations and derogatory statements against the APC candidate in 2016.

“The outcome of the Edo election shows that the end of ‘chop make I chop’ and godfatherism in Nigeria politics is very near.”

The EU boss stated that the election result had further shown that power truly belonged to the people, because the will of the people would not easily be subverted if they show sufficient commitment and be sacrificial and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could deliver credible elections without interference.

He added: “It shows that the security agents have been and can still be a vital instrument and tools for rigging of elections. And their neutrality will go a long way to help deepen the Nigeria Democratic processes.

“The outcome shows that actions of the international community can go a long way to influence and to help checkmate the excesses and activities of our politicians.

“Finally the outcome of the Edo election shows that President Muhammadu Buhari is likely to disappoint the charlatans and self-centred politicians that have clustered around him from inception to pursue a good name, by cueing behind his predecessor (Goodluck Jonathan) to leave a legacy.

“That, of course, can make Nigerians forgive all his misrule and bad governance. And will usher in a new era of hope, peace, justice, equity, fairness and unity in Nigeria.

“Also, those rejecting the outcome are looking forward to the Supreme Court ‘miracle’, but let it be known that Edo is neither Lagos nor Imo State.”
