The National Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday declared the songs of five wave-making Nigerian artistes banned.
The regulatory body labelled them “Not To Be Broadcast”.
The songs are some of the reigning tracks -“Wo” and “Wavy Level” by Olamide, “Fall” and “If (Remix)“ by Davido and “Living Things” by 9ice.
With the ban, the songs are restricted from being played on airwaves in the country.
In a tweet on Friday, the Federal Ministry of Health had described the video of “Wo” by Olamide as violating the Tobacco Control Act 2015.
The same reason obviously occasioned the hammer on the song by the NBC which stated: “This is our position: video contravenes the act. Innocently or otherwise Tobacco Promotion Advertising Sponsorship is banned in all forms.”
Although the NBC did not give reasons for the ban on the other songs, they are likely to be guilty of related offences.
The NBC is, among other things, saddled with the task of ensuring that materials hitting the nation’s airwaves are devoid of obscenity in any form.
Olamide is not new to having his songs banned.
It would be recalled that NBC banned his song, “Shakiti Bobo”, and “Don’t Stop”, accusing the musician of being lewd in his lyrics.
