Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday, showed up at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

His appearance was a surprise to many as the former president had left the party and distanced himself from all its activities.

He tore his membership card in the party saying he was disenchanted and would no longer be involved in partisan politics.

That was ahead of the 2015 general election.

But during the rally by a member of the House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu, who aspires to run for the Ogun State governorship position on the platform of the PDP, Obasanjo showed up.

The rally was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Speaking during his very brief appearance at the occasion, Obasanjo said he was just passing by and decided to say “hello.”

He wished Adebutu success.

His words:  “I am just passing by and decided to say hello and wish you well… whether it is a joke or a real game, they will know. I saw you here and I came to play with you.”

It would be recalled that Obasanjo has been involved in political moves to ensure the ousting of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an open statement last year, Obasanjo berated Buhari, saying he had performed below expectation.

Among other things, he said the president had not been able to solve the economic problem while the state of insecurity had increased.
