The Ebonyi State University has said that the students, who fainted during botched General Studies tests (GSTs) in the institution on February 10, were revived, treated and discharged.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu, told a news conference in the university on Monday that no death was recorded during the unfortunate incident.

Ogbu admitted that some students fainted due to over-crowding at the centre for the tests.

He said that the casualties were rushed to hospital, where they were treated and discharged. Narrating the incident, he said: “What really happened on that day was that we had some hitches that caused delay in the commencement of the examination.

“It was actually scheduled to hold in batches for the students, who were for the examination.

“The first batch that was fixed for 8 am could not start due to the delay in getting some of the computers fixed.

“With this, the hall became overcrowded and some students fainted, while struggling to go inside.

“They were rushed to hospital but nothing happened to any of them. All our students are alive.”

According to him, the tests have been canceled and postponed and a new date will be fixed in no distant time.

Ogbu also spoke on some of his modest achievements since he assumed office in 2017.

He said: “Since I became the VC of the university, we have built and finished a lot projects.

“The Information Communication Technology complex has reached advanced stage.

“We have installed over 500 computer sets for CBT examinations.

“The Faculty of Education and School of Management Science buildings are ongoing.

“We want to set structures to make the university one of the best in the country.”

The Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the university students went on a peaceful protest on February 11 to express their grievance against the development.
