The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has affirmed that no serving corps member deployed to Bayelsa State was involved or died in the reported shooting incidence in Yenogoa, the state capital.
NYSC in a statement signed by Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, Director, Press and Public Relations, made available to NEXT EDITION in Lagos, said contrary to the report, no member of the scheme on national service in Bayelsa was a victim of the shooting incidence.
According to the scheme, a visit to the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Lizzy Ojugo, on the veracity of the media report, indicated that no corps member was involved.

“NYSC Bayelsa State, wishes to inform the public that contrary to reports making the rounds that a corps member was among the victims of a shooting incident that occurred in Yenagoa, on Monday January 6, 2020, nothing of such happened to any serving Corps Member in the State.
“Gratifyingly, a similar visit to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, by the State Coordinator to personally see the victims for proper identification, further validated our position.
“Accordingly, the public, particularly NYSC stakeholders, should disregard the phantom story in its entirety as it is very misleading,” the statement said.
Management assured stakeholders that as the corps had been collaborating with security agencies in the state, it would continue to remain alive to its responsibilities by placing high premium on the lives of corps members in the state.
