The Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the just concluded Presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi has lamented the level of rigging recorded in the general elections in the country, pointing out that no nation would grow with a rigged election.
Mr. Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, noted that the process which brings people into office was far more important than what they do thereafter and that it forms the basis of their integrity.
He posited that election rigging was the worst form of vice and the root of corruption as it impacts negatively on the political and economic growth of the country.
Obi, in a statement issued through his media office noted that the fraud which characterized this year’s election has greatly undermined the country’s democracy, its future and has significantly damaged the on going fight against all vices and tainted the integrity of those responsible.
He insisted that the enormity of damage which the electoral fraud had done to the psyche of the country could not be quantified.

He said acts such as election manipulation were the real reasons why this country was not growing and has remained unable to tackle the many problems like unemployment and its attendant vices.
“The only thing rigging does to a country is that it continues to keep incompetent people in office, and as a result rather than put energy in creating jobs to engage its teeming youths, it instead channels it trying to contain all sorts of vices and brigandage.
He also lamented the further effects of election rigging which encourages incompetent persons to hang on in office and cause more harm to the society.
Obi said he was concerned and worried about how to create jobs and engage millions of Nigerian youths roaming the streets doing nothing at their prime productive ages.
