NiMet Predicts Cloudy, Thundery Weather Conditions Saturday to Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudy and thundery weather conditions from Saturday to Monday.

NiMet`s weather outlook released on Friday said the country had been having thunderstorms and rains in the last 24 hours.

It said there was still high volume of moisture in the atmosphere which increased the chances of thunderstorms, provided the energy was sufficient.

“For Saturday, cloudy atmosphere is expected over the North with prospects of few thunderstorms over parts of Potiskum, Southern Borno, Adamawa, Sokoto and Mambilla Plateau in the morning hours.

“Majority of cities in the region are expected to experience thunderstorms in the afternoon while central cities will be cloudy except other parts of Lokoja, Makurdi, Kwara, Niger and Abuja where there are chances of morning rains.

“However, there are chances of thunderstorms to affect parts of Abuja, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger and Kwara during the afternoon and evening period, “ it said.

The agency predicted few thunderstorms over the inland cities with morning rains over most parts of the coastal cities.

It said there were chances of a few thunderstorms over the inland cities with high chances of thunderstorms over most parts of the coastal cities in the afternoon and evening.

“For Sunday, early morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Mambilla Plateau, Adamawa, Maiduguri and Kano states while cloudy condition is to prevail over other parts of the region.

“A few thunderstorms are expected over most parts of the cities in the north during the afternoon and evening period.

“A few thunderstorms are also expected over Nasarawa and Makurdi while the rest of the cities in the central will be cloudy in the morning but later in the afternoon and evening hours, “ it said.

The agency said there were higher chances of thunderstorms over majority of the cities in the region.

NiMet envisaged inland cities of the south-West to be cloudy with few thunderstorms over the south-East with rains over most parts of the coastal cities during the morning hours.

The agency predicted thunderstorms over most parts of the coastal and inland cities later during the day.

“For Monday, cloudy condition is to prevail over the north except over parts of Maiduguri, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Southern Kebbi where few thunderstorms are anticipated in the morning hours.

“Later in the day, there are higher chances of few thunderstorms over most parts of the north-western cities while the North-Eastern cities will be cloudy.

“Cloudy atmosphere is to prevail over central cities in the morning. There are chances of a few thunderstorms over most parts of cities like Plateau, Abuja, Kogi, Minna, Ilorin and environs in afternoon,“ it said.

According to the agency, cloudy morning is anticipated over the inland cities of the South with chances of a few thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours.

NiMet forecast early morning rains over the coastal cities with chances of a few thunderstorms over most parts later in the afternoon and evening hours.
