President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday extended the lockdown on Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital Territory for another 14 days.
In a national broadcast where he announced the extension, the President noted that though Nigeria had achieved some positive results during the initial 14 day lockdown, the rate of infection was alarming.
For that reason and others, he said the lockdown should continue for another 14 days effective from 11.59p.m on Monday April 13.
Some Nigerians took to the social media to share their views on the President’s speech.
Onyidamola says: “President Buhari, you enforced 2 weeks lockdown before without any proper care for your citizens, people starved, attacked by armed robbers, property damaged. Now you’re telling us to stay home for another 2 weeks!
“Take proper care of your citizens! We have BVN Numbers!”
Aderoju Omoba; “If d Government hasn’t got any plans to help us financially, can we at least gain access to a percentage of our pension funds? I have money staring at me there, and I can’t even touch I want my money!!!”
Presh Onye; “Even if this lockdown was called off today some people won’t still move about.
Why? Because the virus has not been contained.
This is more about our health first than seeing it as an act by the government.
Many of us went on lockdown from work before the initial lockdown.”
Bamgbose Michael; “The extension was foreseen. Still don’t get the fact why people are complaining. I know the government has failed us as regards the hunger pandemic and the whole security issue. However, the virus is not relaxing, the rate of confirmed cases are high same with death rate. However, it’s better we endure the hunger for a little longer with prayers that it should all be over than go out there and get killed.
God help us all. God will heal our Land and the world at large.”

Mohnice;” Staying at home for another 14 days is far better than staying at the isolation centre for the next 14 days, let alone staying in the grave for the rest of the time. It’s a hard but necessary decision…Comply with President Buhari & stay safe.”
John Peterson; “If we call off the lockdown, the virus will spread. If the lockdown remains, social unrest will escalate further and many will be hungry. This is a case of choosing the lesser of two evils. Either ways we are in deep shit.”
Ayo Bankole; “I doubt President Buhari had any choice but to extend the lockdown. What I don’t like is why we had to wait till the last minute to announce it. As the C-in-C, I’m also surprised we didn’t hear him address the consequent insecurity in Lagos & Ogun. And who are these poor households?”
Felix Oni; “President Buhari could’ve gone further to update us on the target he’s set for testing over the next 14 days so that when next he’s speaking to the nation, we can look back to see how far we’ve achieved our goals considering that testing is key to managing community transmission.”
