Onika Tanya Maraj known by her stage name Nicki Minaj, has announced her retirement from making music.

The rapper announced this on her Twitter handle.

She tweeted: “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, ❌in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. ✅Love you for LIFE ?♥️?”

The rapper who started her career in 2004 has had a long and fulfilling career with many hits in her repertoire.

Her breakthrough came in 2010 with the release of her debut album ‘Pink Friday’. With the lead single ‘Your Love’ which peaked at no 14 on the Billboard 100 chart.

Follow up singles ‘Right Thru Me’ and ‘Check It Out’ further cemented her rapper status.

Nicki was the first female rapper to perform at the Yankee Stadium in 2010.

That same year in October, she also became the first female solo artist to have seven songs on the BillboardHot 100.

She went on to make numerous hits like, ‘Moment 4 Life’, ‘Pound The Alarm’, ‘Anaconda’, ‘Bed Of Lies’ and more recently ‘Ganga Burn’ from what is now her last studio album ‘Queen’

Nicki Minaj, in her long career had 10 Grammy nominations, 29 BET nominations and 11 wins, 26 Billboard nominations and 4 wins, 14 MTV VMA nominations and 5 wins, 9 American Music Awards nominations and 6 wins amongst a host of others.

The Superbass hitmaker is making the move in order to have kids with her new beau Kenneth Petty.

Nicki, who has since changed her surname on social media to Mrs. Petty, which caused most to speculate the couple must have secretly wedded had previously revealed she had planned to marry Kenneth within the next 80 days.

Speaking in mid-August, she said: ‘I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now. We’ll do the big wedding later.

‘I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out. Before the 80 days is over, yes, I will be married. I’m very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy.’

Nicki has been defending Petty since the beginning of their relationship.

She slammed people online who said she was ‘lowering standards’ by dating Kenneth, who is a registered sex offender in the state of New York.
