The committee set up by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to probe into the case of alleged underage voting in Kano local government election held recently has submitted its report.
The committee was set up in February and chaired by Mr Ahmed Nahuche.
The submission of the report was made known in a statement issued by the Director of Publicity and Voter Education of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi.
The report was submitted to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Friday.
Nahuche said the committee was thorough in the discharge of its duty.
According to him, critical stakeholders were consulted in the course of the investigation.
Said he: “The stakeholders’ interactive sessions included Civil Society Organizations, Political Parties, Print and Electronic Media organisations as well as Security Agencies.
“The committee in the course of consultation and interactive sessions received a number of pictures, video clips, reports, documents and presentations from the stakeholders.
“It immediately embarked on thorough review and analysis of these materials in order to ascertain the actual connection with KASIEC LGA elections.
“The committee also examined the social media reports of pictures and video clips that triggered the outrage and the alleged participation of underage persons in the KASIEC LGA elections as a key area of focus for the investigation.
“The pictures and video clips were thoroughly analysed by the committee.’’
Speaking while receiving the report, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu praised the committee for its efforts, saying INEC would ensure the voter register was devoid of inclusion of people that were not eligible to be registered.
According to him, the credibility of the voter register was very important.
He said the findings of the committee would be made public.
It would be recalled that upon completion of the findings, the committee had hinted that the picture of underage voters that sparked off the fire of controversy was not from any election in Nigeria.
