Buhari’s Aides At Loggerheads Over US Travel Advisory

Geofrey Onyeama, Nigeria-Trump

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama and the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, are squabbling over alleged repatriation of Nigerians by the United States Government.

Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa had on Monday advised Nigerians with no urgent need to visit the US to shelve their travel plans till there is clarity on Donald Trump’s new immigration policy.

The presidential aide claimed several Nigerians have been deported and their visas cancelled at various U.S airports.

But in a swift reactionMr. Onyeama advised Nigerians with valid travel documents and plans to visit the US to ignore Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa’s travel warning.

The minister, who addressed journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, encouraged Nigerians to go ahead with their legitimate travel plans to the US.

According to him, the US Ambassador to Nigeria and other top officials have denied reports Nigerians are being targeted for deportation.

He said officials in Washington have also denied the allegations and insisted that anyone deported might have failed to convince the border patrol agents that their stay will be temporary.
