Budget padding: Reps lift suspension of Jibrin

The suspension placed on the former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin (Kano-APC), by the House of Representatives, has been lifted.

The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, announced the lifting of the ban at plenary session on Tuesday when he read a letter of apology by Jibrin.

Dogara said Jibrin had met all the conditions needed to resume his normal duties.

According to him, he was therefore free to resume work.

Jibrin was suspended from the House over alleged cases of “budget padding.”

The suspension was for 180 legislative days.

The suspension followed a motion recommended by Chairman of House Committee on Ethics, Nicholas Ossai, and adopted by the whole House.

The budget padding case was described as one of Africa’s biggest parliamentary scandals in recent time.
