Indications have emerged the former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, may be arraigned before a High Court in Dutse this morning.

A local journalist, who pleaded not be named for safety reasons told NEXT EDITION the former governor was yet to be brought to the court as at 9.20am.

“Supporters and friends of the former governor are already at the court premises waiting for his arrival from Kano,” the reporter said on the telephone.

“They are bringing him from Kano and they may not get here in the next hour. You know the distance between Kano and Dutse.”

The reporter said heavily-armed security operatives including the police, the State Security Service (SSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been deployed to the court and strategic parts of the state capital.

The move, he said was apparently, to forestall a possible breakdown of law and order in the capital city.

Mr. Lamido was arrested in his Kano home during the weekend and detained at the Zone 1 headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Kano metropolis.

He was arrested on allegations of inciting his supporters to unleash violence during the planned local government elections in the state, July 1.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Mr. Lamido committed no offence and blamed the Buhari Government and ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for persecution.

The party advised the government to urgently and unconditionally free its detained members including former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, former Governor of Niger State, Bababgida Aliyu, Mr. Lamido and others.
