Alleged corruption: IGP appears before Senate

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Wednesday fulfilled his promise to appear before the Senate ad-hoc committee set up to probe allegation of corruption against him.

The allegation of corrupt practices was made against Idris by Senator Isa Misau.

Ibrahim came to the National Assembly in the company of his lawyer, Alex Iziyon.

Also with him was the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang.

It would be recalled that the IGP promised to appear before the Senate committee based on the advice of his legal team.

The IGP had earlier been invited but refused to appear.

His lawyer had explained that it would be subjudice for him to appear since the case was already in a court of law.

The Senate however disagreed with the lawyer, threatening to issue a warrant of arrest.
