A cleric, Rev. Fr. Christian Echewedo, the Parish Priest of St Anthony Catholic Church, Alagbado, Lagos on Sunday encouraged women to embrace politics to right the wrongs of politicians.
Echewedo made the appeal at the Mothers day celebration by the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) tagged ‘Ave Maria’.
He said that mothers’ involvement in politics would transform the society.
The cleric said that motherhood is an awesome blessing that should be reflected in the society through leadership.
He said that women should start taking up leadership roles from the church and other smaller units and also aim for politics because mothers in politics could bridge the gaps in the society.
According to him, Mother Theresa never gave birth but was known as a mother because of the role she played in the entire world.
‘’Mothers should be the present day Mother Theresa that should be emulated.
‘’We believe that the role of a woman should be like that of the Blessed Virgin Mary who was so pious, humble, sincere, prayerful and watchful regarding things around her.
‘Today should be a day of retreat; withdraw and ask questions; a day of deeper reflection on the meaning of motherhood to make amends.
‘It is a day to make amends and be encouraged to be in politics to right the wrongs of politicians,’’ he said.
According to him, the greatest preaching to preach to humanity is our lifestyle as being positive influencers in the society.

Also speaking at the occasion, the President of the of CWO, Mrs Magret Okwuogoli, also advised women to be virtuous.
Okwuogoli said that women should be seen as virtuous in their lifestyles because such virtuous lifestyles would be reflected in the society thus making the society a better place.
She also said that whatever leadership role women undertook should be seen as service and they should be seen making the best of the position.
She, however, thanked God for giving the women another opportunity to celebrate mothers day.
She expressed gratitude to God that in spite of the pandemic that ravaged the world no soul was lost in the organisation. (NAN)
