Members of the enforcement team of the Ikoyi/Victoria Island clean-up committee were on Tuesday beaten up by persons suspected to be military officers at the roundabout, opposite Bonny Camp on Victoria Island.
The team, had been conducting daily enforcement raids, and were at the roundabout under bridge opposite Bonny Camp, which serves as a depot and distribution point for goods sold on the streets, around the vicinity when the incident occurred.
According to reports, immediately the exercise began, the operatives were confronted by some military personnel, who stopped them from seizing the wares and taking them away.
The suspected military officers, some of whom were dressed in mufti, queried the government officials for daring to conduct raids near a military capacity and beat up some of the officials.
This led some of the street traders, to hurl stones and other such items at the enforcement officials.

It was also reported that the military me attempted to smash the video camera of one of the television stations attached to the enforcement team, even as a public affairs officer was also assaulted and had his phone damaged.
Chairman of the committee, Mr. Tunji Bello, who spoke concerning the incident, expressed sadness about the action of the uniformed men.
According to him, prior to the commencement of the exercise, the committee had written letters of intent to the military and police formations to inform them about the operation of the committee on Victoria Island and in Ikoyi.
Meanwhile, 23 people were arrested for street trading, breach of peace and obstructing the highways during the enforcement exercise.
Those arrested were charged before a Special Offences Mobile Court, which sat at Falomo Roundabout in Ikoyi and punished accordingly.
